Alphabet Shrugs Off Advertising Slump, Thanks to Search Engine

Google's parent company, Alphabet, returned to sales growth in the first quarter of 2019 after a slowdown in the last quarter of 2018. The advertising slowdown continued to crimp YouTube, but other parts of the business, such as cloud computing, showed strong growth.

Alphabet's parent, Google, faced increasing questions in recent months about its future after years of booming financial growth and easy popularity. Alphabet has faced pressure to deliver artificial-intelligence technology. Its sales growth has slowed, and the company is cutting 12,000 jobs to reduce costs.

Google was able to dismiss some of these questions on Tuesday. They returned to the sales growth, despite a slowdown of digital advertising.
