Cohen believes that China can help by using its "leverage" with Russia to encourage them to de-escalate the situation in Ukraine.
Cohen stated that China has a stake to see stability at its borders in an interview with Xinhua. This was on the sidelines a Asia-Pacific security forum. He said that China could play a constructive part in its relations with Russia and Ukraine. "It's important that China signals to Russia and Ukraine that it wants a peaceful solution to the crisis. It doesn't want any further escalation. I believe China can play a role helping to bring these two sides together."
