Former SEC official to help drive business resilience for startup that will acquire small and mid-sized Cybersecurity firms
DALLAS - January 3, 2023 - TCIG, which plans to roll up the market for small and mid-sized Cybersecurity companies, has named Christopher Hetner to its board of directors. Founded in 2022, TCIG will also purchase business services firms such as MSPs, MSSPs and VARs.
A former Chief Information Security Officer at GE Capital, Mr. Hetner is a Senior Executive, Board Director, and leader in Cybersecurity recognized for raising cyber risk governance across the Corporate Boardroom community and protecting global industries, infrastructures, and economies. He complements TCIG's mission – which is to make Cybersecurity available to everyone -- by creating operational resilience through aligning robust Cybersecurity strategies with business objectives for the underserved middle market, according to Toni Memedi, Founding Director of TCIG.
'Cybersecurity is no longer an IT problem,' Toni said. 'Protecting data is now about protecting the bottom line. As we interview targets for our first acquisitions, Chris is a perfect addition to our board because of his professional judgment combined with his public company perspective and Securities and Exchange Commission regulatory and investor oversight experience.'
Currently, Mr. Hetner is Special Advisor for Cyber Risk for the National Association of Corporate Directors, and Chair of the Cybersecurity and Privacy Insights Council at the NASDAQ Center for Board Excellence.
He previously served as the Senior Cybersecurity Advisor to the Chair of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and as Head of Cybersecurity for the Office of Compliance Inspections and Examination at the SEC. He also represented the Chair of the SEC as a senior member of the US Department of the Treasury Financial Banking Information Infrastructure Committee. His most significant contributions included creating the vision for and implementation of the first agency-wide Cybersecurity governance structure, threat intelligence program, incident response capabilities and mechanisms that informed rule making, exam priorities and enforcement matters.
'I am excited and humbled to help TCIG by leveraging my experience as a senior advisor to the cybersecurity, risk management and boardroom community,' Mr. Hetner said. 'Particularly if you're a middle-market company that is publicly traded or regulated, you need to own your risk and focus on how you deploy resources and capital to protect against cyber threats that can introduce material financial harm. Companies that TCIG acquires will benefit not only by adopting best practices like this, but by helping their customers follow them as well.'
Mr. Hetner has led efforts across the financial industry, regulatory community, and government to enhance Cybersecurity coordination in the financial services sector. Throughout his career, he has held several global leadership roles in the private sector that included Managing Director at Marsh, Wealth and Asset Management Cyber Practice Leader at EY, and Senior Vice President at Citigroup.
His background in working with diverse sets of clients and industries will help companies grow after TCIG acquires them, according to Mario Memedi, Co-Founder and COO at TCIG.
'Chris ran cybersecurity practices at Marsh and EY. He combines business acumen with a background in forming new policies and rules now coming to fruition in Washington that impact Cybersecurity risk governance,' Mario said. 'Our initial acquisitions will be the foundation for what follows. Chris will help us get things right from the start.'
What separates Mr. Hetner is that he has successfully led diverse teams, in multiple global locations, through transformative thinking about cyber-risk management, Cybersecurity policy, and regulatory compliance to embrace change and become cultures of action and collaboration, according to Marcel Vonarburg, TCIG's CEO.
'He arms non-technical executives, such as CEOs, CFOs and General Counsels, with data and insights that reflect where material threats need to be intercepted and addressed by deploying capital investments and using innovative technology services,' Marcel said.
Mr. Hetner earned a MS, cum laude, in Information Assurance from Norwich University, and a BS in Security Management, from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
