Fish Oil Supplements May Increase Risk of Stroke and Atrial Fibrillation #

A new study suggests that regular use of fish oil supplements may increase the risk of stroke and atrial fibrillation in individuals with good cardiovascular health. The study analyzed data from over 415,000 participants and found that regular use of fish oil supplements was associated with a 13% higher risk of developing atrial fibrillation and a 5% heightened risk of having a stroke. Experts recommend caution when using fish oil supplements and suggest obtaining omega-3 fatty acids from food sources such as sardines and wild-caught salmon. Prescription versions of fish oil may be more effective for those with cardiovascular disease risk.
