Parents are not OK right now. Here's what they can do
Parents and caregivers under increasing pressure, says US Surgeon General #
Parents and caregivers are experiencing more stress and facing numerous challenges in their daily lives, according to the US Surgeon General. A significant number of parents are overwhelmed and struggle to function due to stress, with concerns including the high costs of childcare, education, and healthcare. Other factors contributing to parental stress include balancing work and childcare, the mental load of parenting, anxiety over school shootings, social media influences, single parenthood, children with special needs, and recent divorce. The mental health struggles of parents can adversely affect society’s healthcare costs and economic productivity. The Surgeon General’s advisory emphasizes the need to prioritize caregivers’ self-care and calls for affordable and accessible healthcare and childcare solutions. Parents can adopt strategies such as reevaluating expectations, managing time more effectively, seeking help from the community, connecting with others in person, spending time in nature, and practicing self-compassion.
