Ukraine launches ‘massive' drone strike on Russia's Lipetsk region, as cross-border attack rages on

Russia’s Lipetsk region has been hit by a ‘massive’ drone attack allegedly carried out by Ukraine. The reported strike resulted in damage to energy infrastructure and caused temporary evacuations. This attack follows Russia’s accusation that Ukrainian troops crossed the border into its Kursk region, marking the first incursion of its kind. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged the offensive, stating that Russia must face the consequences of its invasion. The Ukrainian source claims that the attack targeted an airfield in Lipetsk and destroyed an ammunition depot. Russia’s defense ministry reported intercepting and destroying numerous drones. The intention of these attacks is said to be to divert and demoralize Russian forces. Both the US and Ukrainian officials believe that Ukraine does not intend to hold Russian territory long-term.
