The care given after a cardiac arrest should include mental health support, especially for women, according to new research. In the five years following an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, women were more likely than men to receive medication for anxiety or depression. The study analyzed data from women and men in the Netherlands who survived at least 30 days after a cardiac arrest. The findings suggest that monitoring mental well-being in cardiac arrest survivors, particularly women, could be beneficial. The study highlights the connection between mental and cardiac health and the need for proactive care after cardiac arrest to ensure patients’ overall well-being.
