Maureen Bachmann was stunned when she walked into her business, Kenton Antiques & Collectibles, on the day after Christmas to find water pouring from the ceiling.Portland had just weathered a paralyzing ice storm. Bachmann had decided to open Dec. 26 in hopes of a busy day of sales.

Instead, she found the quickly melting ice had overwhelmed a clogged rain on the roof, and she spent the day emptying three 20-gallon garbage cans that were filling with water about every 10 minutes.
