High school seniors’ use of delta-8, a cannabis compound marketed as a legal alternative to weed, is significant, especially in states without legalized cannabis for adults. Delta-8 THC, a chemical compound in the cannabis sativa plant, is similar to delta-9 THC but has fewer legal restrictions. Unlike weed, there are no age restrictions for buying delta-8 in most states where it is legal. Delta-8 comes in various forms, appealing to youth. According to a study, approximately 11% of 12th-grade students reported using delta-8 THC in the past year. The study suggests that the prevalence of delta-8 use among teens is concerning from a public health perspective.
